CLUB HISTORY
The Cairns Greyhound Racing Club was born & formed through a General Public Meeting on the 28/08/1973 of which there was over 3000 people in attendance at this meeting.
Mr.Harry Young was the Club President and he along with his hard working committee carefully prepared and planned for two years to make Cairns the first night Greyhound operation other then the Gabba Greyhound racing Club in SE Qld.
Situated at Cannon Park - the distances in the beginning were 541 metres & 734 metres and the initial outlay of expenditure to get it off the ground came in at approx $175,000-00.
The Cairns Greyhound Racing Club hosted it's very first race meeting on the 3rd July 1975 and was officially opened by Queenslands' Deputy Premier & Minister for Racing Sir Gordon Chalk & Lady Chalk. The 8 Race program was headed off with the 541m "NQ Lager Mixed Grade Stake" which was won by trainer John Keep's "RICKETY ROSE" in a time of 33.50.
